Resolution comes to Birmingham
This year, Resolution’s National Conference heads to vibrant Birmingham. Whilst we may be bias, we are super excited about Birmingham being chosen to host the conference. Birmingham, being England’s second city, is also currently subject to a number of pioneering pilots before the Family Court, namely the Pathfinder project in children law proceedings and the Express Financial Remedy procedure.
In anticipation of what is likely to be another great conference hosted by Resolution, we thought it would be good to have quick look at what the focus of resolution is as well as the importance, we feel, of dealing with family matters in a constructive, collaborative and non-confrontational way.
What Is Resolution?
Resolution was founded in 1982. Now a huge organisation, in which large numbers of family law professionals are members, its aim is to improve resolution within family law cases so that they are dealt with constructively and with as little conflict as possible.
Each member of Resolution signs up to the Resolution Code of Practice. The Code of Practice is available below. https://resolution.org.uk/looking-for-help/code-of-practice/
Resolution works in the legal community and with the public to promote non-confrontational
Why is a non-confrontational approach better?
The breakdown of a marriage, relationship or disputes over arrangements for children are likely to be one of the most emotionally difficult times for someone.
Whilst there are legalities that need to be addressed and sometimes litigation will need to be entered into, there is no reason why it has to be a battle.
Legal professionals who sign up to Resolution are committed to trying to ‘take the heat’ out of the situation and problem solve, collaboratively and constructively. This may include supporting parties in mediation, moving forwards with voluntary disclosure or round table discussions. Often, a simple phone call and a “step back” to assess parties’ cases can help move a case from animosity to building a framework of understanding.
It can feel like there are two distinct sides in a separation or dispute, which can be the case but the majority of the time, there is always a common intention to resolve matters as quickly and cost effectively as possible.
How we can support you?
Whether you are at the start of your case, or stuck in a stale mate that doesn’t seem to end, it is always worth assessing your position and looking for a new path if possible.
We know it is hard making the first step or cutting through the fog. Gemma and Hannah are experienced solicitors who will be able to give you practical advice and plan with you how best to proceed. Gemma and Hannah are both members of Resolution.
