Tom Knox

Head of Social Housing and Solicitor

Tom was Co-Founder of Legal 500 firm Knox Ellis before it was acquired by MSB in 2018. Tom is an expert in social housing matters and oversees all heads of departments and areas of work including tenancy enforcement, disrepair, homeownership and leasehold.

Tom has developed niche knowledge and expertise including specialisms in anti-social behaviour cases (including possession and injunction proceedings) with Equality Act 2010/Public Law/Human Rights arguments, asset management including advice on setting various social rents as well as drafting occupancy agreements across clients’ housing stock, advice and assistance on governance/regulatory matters to Executive teams and Boards of MSB’s clients, complex housing management queries, leasehold queries ranging from service charge disputes to forfeiture proceedings and s.20 consultation and advocacy.

Tom has a track record of notable achievements in the sector, having represented the first social landlord to obtain an ASBO shortly after the legislation was introduced in 2003. He has drafted occupancy agreements for several important social landlords throughout England across their stocks running into 50,000 properties. Over the last ten years Tom has delivered training sessions to thousands of delegates across the social housing sector.
