Rachael Banks

In House Counsel

Rachael was called to the Bar in 1993 and practised in London before moving to chambers in Liverpool in 1997. Rachael joined the advocacy team at MSB in February 2024 after 30 years at the Bar. Rachael is an extremely experienced family practitioner. Her practice encompasses all areas of family law including private law children cases, financial remedy proceedings, injunction proceedings and public law. She appears regularly in the Family Court, be that in the Court of Appeal, the High Court, as well as in the lower courts and has appeared in the Supreme Court. She has appeared against Leading Counsel, she has led junior counsel and has been led by Leading Counsel in many cases.

Rachael has a broad and extensive experience representing parents/carers and children, in all aspects of private law children disputes, including a number of high profile disputes. She represents parents in cases where there is disagreement in respect of the day to day living arrangements for their children, as well as those that need to resolve specific issues in respect of their children’s education, health or religion. She frequently represents parents in respect of relocation cases.

Rachael frequently acts in complex high net worth financial remedy cases.

Rachael has a vast experience in complex public law proceedings in which there are allegations of serious non accidental injury and/or death; allegations of sexual abuse; allegations of FGM; allegations of domestic abuse; allegations of serious parental neglect and /or alcohol and drug misuse; allegations of fabricated illness and cases in which one or more party suffers from mental illness or a personality disorder.

Rachael is a highly skilled and well respected advocate. She is known for her practical, calm and approachable manner with clients during stressful proceedings.
