With a career spanning since 1976, Allan has dedicated himself to the practice of criminal defence law, specialising particularly in the defence of serious and complex fraud cases. He has been entrusted to represent clients in many of the most significant and high-profile financial cases over the past two decades
During his tenure as the Founding Partner and Managing Partner of JMW Solicitors from 1972 to 1992, Allan served as the Head of Crime. During this time the practice expanded into an all-service law firm with more than 100 staff in Crime, Civil Litigation, Family, Commercial Property, Residential Property, across 3 offices in Manchester.
In 1992, Allan established Maidment’s Solicitors, where he assumed the role of owner and Senior Director until 2019. Over the course of 30 years, he steered the practice into a nationwide criminal law practice with eight offices, strategically located in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, and London. Maidment’s Solicitors has been recognised as one of the country’s foremost criminal law defence firms.
Throughout his career, Allan has championed the defence of professionals, company directors, and individuals in extremely complex, high value fraud investigations and prosecutions. These cases, often brought forth by authorities such as the Serious Fraud Office, Complex Financial Crime Units, and HMRC.
He specialised in detailed pre-charge defence participation and response in complex fraud cases. Additionally, he focused on investigations involving allegations of Misconduct in Public Office and Miscarriage of Justice. These investigations often centred on failed and highly sensitive multi-defendant prosecutions, resulting in substantial losses to the public purse.
He has acted as the lead defence lawyer in professional disciplinary investigations and prosecutions for a wide variety of professionals including solicitors, barristers, accountants, doctors, dentists, opticians, health care professionals, and teachers.
At MSB, Allan enjoys a crucial role in expanding the firm’s Crime and Regulatory practice, aiming to establish MSB as a leading national player in criminal and regulatory law. This expansion includes the addition of new offices in Birmingham and Chester, enhancing our ability to provide comprehensive legal services across the country.
He is pleased to see former colleagues from the criminal practice join MSB in Birmingham, bolstering our reputation in Serious Crime and Complex Fraud defence in the Midlands and Southeast regions. This expansion also allows us to broaden our scope in Regulatory work, including professional disciplinary investigations and prosecutions.
