Housing 2023: A Round- up

As a trainee solicitor in Social Housing, I always look forward to the CIH Conference.

This year, MSB celebrated our Head of Department Louise Murphy winning an Inspirational Leader of the Year Award, our Partner and the Head of Anti-Social Behaviour and Leasehold (Social Housing) Andy Moore hosted a collaboration hub on the Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan, and we also enjoyed the entertainment – wonderful flamenco dancers!

Day 0- 26th June 2023

The night before Housing 2023 officially started, our team attended Women in Housing and Housing Heroes Awards where we celebrated our Partner and Head of Department Louise Murphy winning an Inspirational Leader of the Year Award. We were so proud of her! That set us all in a great mood; all really looking forward to the rest of the week.

Day 1- 27th June 2023

On the first day of Housing 2023, Andy Moore, Partner and Head of Anti-Social Behaviour and Leasehold (Social Housing) hosted a collaboration hub with Midland Heart on the Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan. It was a great way to kickstart the conference as he shared some fantastic ideas and examples of best practice.

After the talk, we had some time to look around the exhibition stands. We spoke to a lot of interesting businesses actively working to enhance building safety and conditions whilst working towards reducing the carbon footprint.

In the afternoon, I joined the ladies in our team in attending a Women in Social Housing (WISH) drinks reception at the Edwardian Hotel. It was an amazing opportunity to connect with different people around the sector in a nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Day 2- 28th June 2023

The second day of the Conference was a big day for our team as we were hosting our annual event ‘Social Housing and Sangria’.

But before that, we visited the Conference. First stop – a coffee and a vegan brownie!

At the Conference, I had a chance to listen to a very insightful session on climate change and tenant engagement. It was interesting to hear the different opinions from the panel and learn about the tenant’s perspective and what social housing providers can do to promote the engagement.

We finished the day with our sold-out event ‘Social Housing and Sangria’ where we could catch up with the clients and meet some new people. As the theme of the event goes, we enjoyed wine, tapas, paella, live music… and flamenco dancers!

Day 3- 29th June 2023

On the third and final day, we visited the conference to have a one last look around the exhibition stands. We were very excited to meet ‘the Dulux Dog’ at one of them!

We also learned more about Net Zero by participating in the interactive game organised by the Net Zero Collective, where we tried our luck in building the most eco-friendly house.

Before going back to the office, we grabbed some last-minute freebies, because who can resist a free pen?

It was a great week for MSB and I. I always enjoy attending events in the sector; this year was particularly important for me as I qualify as a solicitor in September. I am grateful I had a chance to develop my knowledge through inspiring talks networking.

I’m already looking forward to next year!
