Over 2,000 jobs at risk as Claire’s are due to appoint administrators in the UK and Ireland

We are saddened to hear that the accessories retailer Claire’s are in the process of appointing administrators. We understand that this may result in the loss of over 2,000 jobs by way of redundancy.

Claire’s has been operating in the UK since the 1990s and has been a staple across the UK high-street ever since. At its peak, the company had over 350 stores in the UK. Currently, Claire’s has approximately 278 stores in the UK and 28 in Ireland.

Unfortunately, the chain is now faced with stiff competition from TikTok and Instagram shops, and by cheap accessories sold by fast fashion giants like Shein and Temu, resulting in losses of £25 million over the pas 3 years.

The administration now leaves thousands of employees at risk of redundancy.

Prior to confirming your role as redundant, Claire’s will be required to inform and consult with you. If they fail to do this, you may have a claim for compensation of up to 90 days’ pay. This is known as a Protective Award.
