MSB hosted its annual summer barbecue at Blackburne House again earlier this month. The event is an opportunity for staff from the firm’s three offices in Allerton, Wavertree and the city centre to come together to celebrate achievements over the past twelve months.

And there have been a number of feats for the firm in recent months. MSB relocated it’s city centre office in January, from Silkhouse Court to 4 St Paul’s Square. The firm now occupy more than 5,500 sq ft in the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district.

MSB appointed 5 new partners in March and staff numbers have also risen by around a third since the start of the year. The firm now employ more than 100 people across its three sites and expanded their Allerton Road office in April to house their growing residential property team.

Further, MSB announced record financial figures in June, topping £5million in turnover for the first time in it’s history – so there was certainly plenty to celebrate.

The summer barbecue is also when MSB announce their nominated charity for the year – and this year, MSBs nominated charity will be The Anthony Walker Foundation.

MSB have instilled a fair and transparent system for deciding which charity they will support each year. There is an open call to all staff for nominations before a shortlist of 4 is outlined. Members of staff volunteer to pitch for those 4 deserving charities and staff are asked to vote for that which they feel is the most deserving.

In the two years previous, MSB has supported children’s charity Claire House. The firm raised an impressive £13,000 for the charity, which will provide 2 full days of care at the hospice in Wallasey.

This is the third year MSB have hosted the barbecue at Blackburne House. MSB provide legal assistance to Blackburne House and have developed a very close and involved working relationship with the organisation.

Blackburne House is a Grade II listed building in Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter. The organisation provides support and education for hard to reach and disadvantaged women in Merseyside.

Blackburne House also operate a number of social enterprises, including bistro, nursery, spa, construction company and of course conference and events venue, with the shared aim of investing back into women’s education.

Family partner Emma Carey says: “We’re delighted to host this event at Blackburne House.

“Blackburne House is an amazing organisation that has given so much to this city. But as well as that, it is an absolutely stunning venue - we call it Liverpool’s hidden gem.

“We feel fantastically well looked after every time we come back. The food is always amazing, the team are so helpful and make every effort to take care of our every need – they really do go over and above. Why would we go anywhere else?

“More than that, they share our ethos of giving back to the community. It really is wonderful to partner with an organisation that don’t just share a vision, but are similarly active in delivering that vision. I really am honoured to work with them.”

Managing partner at MSB, Paul Bibby, added: “When we were invited to pitch for work with Blackburne House three years ago, it immediately occurred to me that there was a bigger cultural attachment that we could bring that was more than just about delivering legal services.

“Chief executive Claire Dove was immediately receptive to this and has helped us to explore and work through many of the ideas we had and we’ve been able to develop a fantastically involved working relationship, which we all feel has been incredibly rewarding.

“It simply is no longer a case of being lawyers and providing law, you have to buy into and enrich your clients’ experience and hopefully we have been able to do that to great measure with Blackburne House – and long may our relationship with them last.”

Head of projects and business development at Blackburne House, Andrea Rushton, said: “MSB have been the most unbelievable support to this organisation. Not only are they there at the other end of the phone whenever we need them, but they also provide a free legal advice surgery for our female learners each week. We feel very lucky to work with such a forward-thinking firm.”
