More than 80 leading members of Liverpool’s buoyant business community gathered at Liverpool’s Hilton Hotel on February 3 for Limitless II – a half day conference organised by Downtown in Business.

This was the second instalment from the team – whose members boast some of the city’s most successful business leaders and entrepreneurs – and this time focussed on the power of a positive mindset in order to experience high growth, with a programme that aimed to motivate, set aspirations and encourage philanthropic business practises.

The morning featured talks from a range of esteemed entrepreneurs spanning the digital, lifestyle, charity, financial and professional services sectors, including our very own managing partner Paul Bibby.

Paul joined Steven Jackson OBE of Recycling Lives and Nisha Katona of popular Indian restaurant Mowgli for the final session of the half day conference. The panel were invited to talk about charity, philanthropy and ethics in business.
When asked about the importance of giving back, Steve Jackson said:

“Giving something back is fundamental to good business and instilling best practises across the board.

Budding television chef and client and friend of MSB, Nisha, who last year opened a second Liverpool restaurant in the city’s commercial district, launched in Manchester, and has plans to launch in Leeds later this year –talked about her unique approach to recruitment and development processes.

“At Mowgli, we manage with love. Our staff know from their very inception that there are opportunities to grow with us. I have worked hard to instil a nurturing – almost maternal environment, where respect is key.”

A view that was echoed by Paul, who said:

“I believe there are three things key to creating a successful business – integrity, empathy and continuity.

“Lead with actions, not just words – put your money where your mouth is, reward the efforts of your employees and take them with you on your journey.

“Understand their challenges and remove barriers – demonstrate that opportunities for progress and self-development are uninhibited.

“In turn, you’ll have a loyal, committed team who are eager to stay and grow with you – which in turn, benefits your customers.”

Chief executive at Downtown in Business Frank McKenna said: “I was really impressed with panellists throughout the day and am so pleased with the efforts of all our speakers and our team here in pulling together an event that both informed and inspired.

“Paul particularly impressed me with his refreshing approach to recruiting and managing his team. MSB are a fantastic firm who have experienced a great deal of growth in recent years, and with fair and loyal leadership like Paul’s it isn’t difficult to see why.”
