MSB Solicitors Liverpool
Even during an exceptionally busy period for our property team, client care remains to be our priority at MSB and we're proud to say that we regularly receive glowing testimonials for all our staff.

This month, Craig Passey, executive in our conveyancing team has received praise from one very happy customer who said: "Craig is the best conveyancer I have ever worked with on the purchase of my investment properties and I shall definitely use him and MSB again."

Craig assisted the client in the purchase of 9 properties in total,  5 of which needed to be completed before stamp duty changes. The properties were leasehold and can often take longer to complete. Craig, however, managed to have completions done within 4 weeks of being instructed and saved the client more than £20K on stamp duty fees.

MSB prides itself on the quality and speed of service delivered by our dedicated conveyancing team, run from our Allerton Road office. We are panel solicitors for all the major lenders and have direct access to HM Land Registry so we can examine the title to your property within minutes of being instructed.

Cumulatively, our team have more than fifty years conveyancing experience so you can rest assured you will get the best possible service.

MSB were pleased to sponsor the 2016 CILEx Ball, an event that aims to celebrate and mark the achievements of CILEx members over the past twelve months.

This year, two members of our team, Danielle Blaylock and John McCreanney, helped to organise the event, which was hosted at Liverpool's Double Tree by Hilton hotel on Friday, 15th April.

More than 80 guests attended the ball, representing the length and breadth of Liverpool's business community, including Alison Lobb, president of the Liverpool Law Society.

Denise and Stuart Fergus of the James Bulger Memorial Trust also attended and more than £1,000 was raised for their charity through a dedicated raffle and auction.

Key speakers on the evening included David Flood of St John's Buildings and CILEx President, Mr David Edwards.

MSBs John McCreanney, who helped organise this year's event, said: "The 2016 annual CILEx Ball was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I was very happy to be involved. Both Danielle and I were incredibly pleased with the outcome - more than 80 attended - and we've had some fantastic feedback from those guests.

"I'd like to thank the team at Double Tree for working with us, it really was the ideal venue for this occasion. I'd also like to thank our esteemed guests and speakers for their contribution to what I'm sure was a memorable evening for all."
MSB are pleased to be hosting two official IFB 2016 fringe events this summer at our city centre offices in Silkhouse Court.

The Local Enterprise Partnership are supporting the International Festival for Business 2016 and leading on the official fringe programme, The Edge, which will run alongside the main event programme from 13 June - 1 July.

As part of the fringe calendar, MSB will host an event in association with Connected Irish and the International Irish Business Network on Tuesday, 28th June. Then, on Wednesday 29th June, MSB will host the third in a series of 'In Conversation' events in association with The Institute of Directors. This event has been specifically tailored for the creative and digital sector and organisers hope to attract a host of the UKs most successful international creatives, digital champions, innovators, exporters and agency owners for an evening of networking, with views from our thirteenth floor offices directly over Liverpool's famous waterfront.

The Edge is an innovative, creative and dynamic programme of events and activities, all of which have been designed to ensure that businesses in the city region derive maximum tangible benefits from the festival. For more information, visit https://www.liverpoollep.org/about-the-edge/

MSB in association with Connected Irish are hosting a networking breakfast at our offices in Silkhouse Court on Thursday, 17th March, between 8-10am, to mark St Patrick's Day.

For those people who may have an interest in or connection with Ireland, a new networking organisation has been set up to advance their business, cultural and community affairs.

The group meet on a regular basis and plan an official launch in the forthcoming year.

Eamonn Sexton, partner at MSB and on the Board of Connected Irish, believes that this is an opportunity to forge an effective working association.

He said:

“Connected Irish will be a focal point for people interested in all things Irish in Liverpool, Northern England and beyond.

"It seeks to promote and support the diverse talents, interests and needs of the people working and living amongst us.

"With a shared purpose, the collaborative means and the collective will to do so, we shall offer members the opportunity to raise additional business and enhance the profile and wellbeing of the greater community.”

MSB are set to host a Later Life Planning seminar in partnership with O'Loughlin & Co Financial Planning on Thursday, March 10th.

The seminar will be hosted at MSB’s city centre office in Silkhouse Court and will include talks from commercial partner Mark Forman and director at O'Loughlin & Co Financial Planning, Trevor O'Loughlin.

More details can be found by clicking here.
Sean Sexton, partner in our crime team, has been recognised as a ‘powerhouse’ by the Legal 500 and recommended for his work in defending people charged with serious fraud.

Sean has built a strong reputation through his involvement in high profile cases across the UK and Ireland. He is recognised as one of the top 50 Irish lawyers in the UK. Sean was one of the founding partners of MSB, who are now the highest ranked Liverpool law firm in both criminal defence work generally and serious and complex fraud cases in particular.

In recent months, Sean has travelled the length of the UK, from London on the Tilbury Docks people smuggling case, to Scotland on an historic sex abuse case. Sean is currently involved in a lengthy battle in Manchester, involving a £500 million international drugs conspiracy.

Sean’s speciality, though, is defending people charged with serious fraud and he has just been instructed in a case in Lincoln involving an alleged multi-million pound conspiracy to defraud public bodies.

Sean’s trailblazing career has seen him amongst the first solicitor advocates to address the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg; when he made submissions as to the rights of victims on behalf of Denise Fergus, the mother of James Bulger.

As a young man, he was dubbed a ‘loophole lawyer’ by the national media when he successfully argued that the standard wording used in many drink driving cases was flawed.

On his recent accolade in the Legal 500, published yesterday, Sean said:

“My father worked in construction and often spoke of the ‘longdistance men’ - the men who went wherever the best work was. I suppose you could say I am one of the law’s ‘longdistance men’.

“I have been fortunate to enjoy a successful career to date, but it would not have been possible without the support of so many talented colleagues. Paul Bibby and I set up in business together in 1989 with a vision of creating a progressive and service oriented law firm.

“Over the years, the firm has forged a reputation for excellence of service across the board and this latest accolade is testament to how far we have come. Of course, we’re delighted to be recognised in the Legal 500 and it is a welcome reward for the dedication and ability of an outstanding team.”

Head of Crown Court litigation, Paul Gallagher and Andrew Pearson, consultant solicitor-advocate at MSB were also recommended by the Legal 500 this year.

We are delighted to have notched up another award this month after beating off strong competition to win Best Legal Firm at the City of Liverpool Business Awards.

More than 250 guests attended the awards dinner at Sefton Park Palm House on July 16th. The dinner is held annually by Downtown Liverpool in Business in association with Liverpool Vision and is a popular event on Liverpool’s business calendar.

The awards aim to celebrate the brightest and best of the region’s commercial world, and categories include best financial, best newcomer and, of course, best legal, as well as awards to mark talent within the hospitality and digital sectors.

MSB were among 17 winners in all, including Santander who picked up the award for Best Business Bank and Liverpool John Lennon Airport who were awarded Business of the Year.

Managing partner Paul Bibby said: “Of course, we’re ecstatic to have won. We’ve grown significantly over the past twelve months, expanding our city centre office and there have been a number of key appointments across the board. I feel the award is testament to the hard work of a committed team and very well deserved.”

The City of Liverpool Business Awards (COLBA) are in their eleventh year and celebrate the most forward-thinking, entrepreneurial and creative businesses across the city.

Chief executive of Downtown in Business, Frank McKenna said: “The shortlist of entries alone shows the breadth of talent in our region and the awards are a perfect way to celebrate and recognise the contribution these businesses make to the city region’s economic growth.

“I am delighted for all the nominees, and of course the winners. After coming through the toughest recession in living memory, it is those businesses that are the true heroes and the people really helping us to claw our way out of the downturn. They have all made an invaluable contribution to wealth and jobs creation in Liverpool, and they deserve huge congratulations and credit for their tremendous efforts.”
MSB win award for best Medium Law Firm at the Liverpool Law Society Awards

On Friday, 15th May more than 300 people attended the Liverpool Law Society annual Legal Awards at the city’s Crowne Plaza hotel, and we were delighted to attend.

A fantastic evening was had by all, topped off by scooping the award for best medium law firm. Managing partner, Paul Bibby said:

“This award is testament to the continued development of MSB. It’s been a real team effort and I’m very lucky to have such a fantastic team around me, eager to roll up their sleeves; and with passion and skill in equal measure.

“I’m incredibly proud that our hard work has been recognised and a huge well done to all the other winners.”

This is the third award for MSB in recent months, after we picked up property law firm of the year at the Your Move Awards late 2014 and Paul Bibby was awarded Legal Entrepreneur of the Year at the Livercool Awards hosted by Downtown in Business in November.
