MSB Solicitors Liverpool
Liverpool-based law firm MSB Solicitors’ family department last night picked up the award for Region Firm for the North at a gala dinner in London’s South Bank, attended by leading law firms from across the country.

The Family Law Awards were launched in 2010 in order to recognise the important work of family lawyers across the country and celebrate achievements and advances in the sector. It is the second time MSB have been nominated in this category.

MSB Solicitors were commended by judges, who were “particularly impressed with this winning firms submission, outlining the firms dedication to promoting diversity and career progression within its team.”

MSB were also recognised for its “excellent pro-bono and community initiatives and its commitment to the campaign for legal aid.”

The award is the latest in a string of achievements for MSBs family team, who held a specialist conference in Liverpool last week in association with leading London-based chambers 4 Paper Buildings.

The conference was attended by law makers and leading authorities and discussed ways the law needs to adapt to better serve modern society. Indu Kumar, who was awarded Young Barrister of the Year at last night’s awards, was one of the expert speakers.

MSB were appointed to the International Child Abduction and Contact Panel by the Official Solicitors Office last year. They are currently the only North West firm to have made the panel.

MSB were also awarded best family firm at this year’s Liverpool Law Society Awards in May.

Family partner at MSB, Emma Carey says: “I am proud of the family team here at MSB every day, but today I am bursting at the seams. To say I am delighted with this award would be an understatement.

“It is something we have worked incredibly hard for and it has been a real collective effort. We have some outstanding solicitors who all share a vision to become leaders in the field of family law - and each and every member of my team goes above the parapet in order to do so.

“We focus all our energy on staying at the cutting edge of modern and evolving family law. We invest heavily in lifelong learning and specialist training for all our staff so that they can continually stay abreast of changes within the sector.

“Additionally, we spend much time developing working relationships with support agencies, local authorities and other law firms to ensure we have access to the best knowledge on emerging issues and have developed a formidable network, which in turn will be of massive benefit to our clients.

“But our values go beyond commercial growth and we take our commitment to community in which we operate very seriously. In times of austerity, access to justice for all has never been more important.

“At MSB we look to help everyone who comes through the door, and whether it is helping to access legal aid or through pro-bono assistance and advice, we reach out to all sections of the community. We believe it is this commitment that sets us aside, not only as a go-to solicitors firm, but also as an employer.”

Winners at the 7th annual Family Law Awards were selected by a judging panel of some 18 experts, including heads of the Association of Lawyers for Children, Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, Family Law Bar Association and Resolution, along with Family Law journalists and editors.

MSB now employ 43 staff across their family department. The department deals with all manner of family matters including divorce, co-habitation disputes, children issues, domestic violence and child abduction.

Head of family, Emma Carey along with partners Emma Palmer, Nicola Harris, Hayley Catherall and Paula Mansfield are all Resolution-accredited; and solicitor Wendy Eves is a specialist cross-border mediator specialising in international child abduction.
